作为西安的一名纺织工人，李丽（余男）没有能力治疗她的癌症。她无爱的婚姻，距离遥远的儿子，还有即将倒闭的工厂，都让她感到非常绝望。因此她想要抓紧这生命中最后的时光，于是去寻找初恋情人赵鲁寒。赵十年前调往北京之后就音讯全无，当时等待了两年之后李丽和她现在的丈夫结了婚。在北京她找到了赵，却发现他从未收到过她的信。赵所拥有的也是无爱婚姻，但是他很疼爱自己的女儿。李丽回到西安时发现工厂已经关闭，她和其她的纺织姑娘们只好在夜总会里陪客人跳舞，以此谋生。她的丈夫卖掉了房子并借钱为她支付医药费，颇为低沉的李丽突然间心情豁然开朗起来——自己其实一直被深深的爱意包围着。
王全安被认为是中国的顶级导演之一。今年九月，在第33届蒙特利尔电影节的首映，本片一举夺得“评审团大奖”及“全球专业影评人大奖”两项重量级的大奖。

As a textile worker in Xi’an, Li Li (Yu Nan) cannot afford the treatment for her cancer. If that isn’t hopeless enough, she doesn’t love her husband, her son is distant, and the factory where she works is closing. Trying to make the best of the time left, she sets out to find the love of her life, Zhao Luhan (Lu Nian). After Zhao transferred to Beijing ten years ago, Li Li wrote to him, but Zhao never wrote back. After waiting two years she married her husband. In Beijing she finds Zhao and discovers he never got her letters. Zhao is also in a loveless marriage, but he adores his daughter. Li Li returns to Xi’an to find the factory closed. She joins the other weaving girls taking the only work left: dancing with customers at a sleazy nightclub. Quite out of character, her husband sells the house and borrows money to pay for her medical treatment creating further confusion of the heart.

Wang Quan’an is now considered one of China’s top directors. Premiering in September at Montreal International Film Festival the film won the Grand Jury an d Fipresci prizes for Best Film.
