Freshman seminar aims to keep alive memories of ’89 crackdown

Twenty-one years ago, when Rowena He wore a black armband as a gesture of mourning on the day after the Tiananmen Square violence, she recalls being told, “If you don’t take that off, no one will protect you.” Now she is teaching a freshman seminar, “Rebels With a Cause: Tiananmen in History and Memory,” that tackles the infamous Chinese protests."
